Imagine being able to break down any defender in the NBA with a crossover or slam-dunk, but not be able to prevent yourself from going broke. NBA players make millions of dollars a year from their playing contract, and some, millions more from endorsements. But far too many players have seen that money go just as fast as it came. The following NBA stars are players who couldn’t have been dumber with their money, losing millions and even going broke.
Sir Charles (The Round Mound of Rebound) was a force to be reckoned with on the court. On the poker table however, not so much. Sir Charles lost well over $10 million in gambling. Thankfully, his role as a sportscaster on TNT has allowed him to rebound again, financially.
You’ve got to be one hell of a lucky guy to get to play with Michael Jordan and win a championship. But Jason Caffey is also one hell of an unlucky guy when it comes to his love life. Jason thought it was a good idea to have 10 children with eight different women, which eventually cost him so much in child support, he had to claim bankruptcy.
A New York streetball legend and NBA vet, Kenny amassed over $63 million over his 14-year career. And just like Jason Caffey before, Kenny got his groove on with 5 different women, making 7 children between them. When will guys get it? You’ve got to pay to play when it comes to women. And Kenny paid dearly in child support, which ended up bankrupting him.
Curry, an underachieving center, had a lot of problems off the court. Issues include being charged with sexual harassment by his chauffeur, he was tied up and robbed at gunpoint, and his 9-month-old daughter was murdered. The result of his problems led him to lose over $60 million! And when you ask him, he claims he doesn’t have a clue on how he lost it .
Derrick Coleman was great a putting the ball in the basket. He was also great a putting a massive amount of money into real estate and Rolex watches. Both of which ended up being bad investments as he spent and lost over $87 million. Derrick has yet to file for bankruptcy and is currently working (outside of the NBA) to pay off his debt.
There’s players that blow $10 million. Then there’s those like Walker who blow over $110 million! Horrible real-estate investments and mooching friends was Walker’s downfall. Oh, and gambling with, and losing to Michael Jordan. He should know you can’t beat the G.O.A.T at anything.
How any player can have so much success on the court, and so much failure off it is a surprise to anyone. Mind you, Scottie has to credit Michael Jordan for his 6 championships. Perhaps he should have consulted Michael on his finances when he decided to purchase a $4 million jet that didn’t even work, then another million to repair it.
This is the saddest of them all. Allen, who had literally changed the face of basketball with his deadly crossover that broke down every defender that guarded him, also broke down his bank. Jewelry, real estate, cars, bling – you name it, Allen bought it. Over his career he made over $200 million, and because of his careless spending, lost it all. When it comes to finances, sadly, there is no answer for “The Answer”.
