Dear Christal,
I’ve been in a relationship with what I thought was a wonderful man for the last three years. Recently I’d been having my suspicions that something just wasn’t quite right so I began to snoop through his emails and phone. Needless to say, my suspicions weren’t for nothing. I found tons of emails, naked pictures and numbers of several different females. I really love this man and never thought that he would do anything like this to me. I don’t know what to do. I really love this man, but I’m deeply hurt and torn between what I should do next. Should I leave, confront him, or just try to deal with it? After all nobody’s perfect.

Dear Christal,
Today my 16 year old daughter told me that she was 3-months pregnant. She’s emotionally immature, she likes to hang out with friends all night long, and to top it all off, she doesn’t have a job or what it takes to keep one, and it will be harder for her to get in her condition. This means that I will probably end up taking care of her child myself. Money isn’t a huge issue for us even though I am a single parent. I have a pretty stable, decent job. But I am worried that she just doesn’t get the severity of the situation that she’s in.
She’s been taught better than this. Someone please help!!!

So, I am sitting here watching the Michael Moore documentary (very good by the way), Capitalism: A Love Story, and what’s happening in America is really upsetting, but is capitalism to blame???
I decided to look up the true meaning of capitalism and according to Merriam-Webster, capitalism, which originated in 1877, is an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market. Sounds good, right???
It means that we can choose what we sell, how much we charge, what types of profits we make, and who profits from it. Not at bad idea, right, but what happens when capitalism goes wrong? Continue reading »
Dear Christal,
This week has been one of many challenges. My finances are a mess, my job is a dead end going nowhere fast, and to top it all off… my bank accounts have all been frozen until further notice.
I work retail, something that I will never do again, and it’s not as easy as it seems. People don’t want to work any more and that creates a problem with me. You see, I’m in management and the pressure is really on us to get stuff done with little or no people to get it done with, and the people that are there don’t know the meaning of work ethic. The company is in a big push to reduce inventory, yet they force out tons of merchandise to the store and expect it to all magically disappear and when no one buys it, they us, lower management, for not getting the job done. Needless to say lower management, including myself, feels as if our jobs are threatened because upper management seems to be head hunting. Their telling us that we’re not making it happen, they are also expecting us to work 14 plus hour days and since we’re salaried, we don’t get any type of financial compensation. One manager that I know worked from 8 am until 3am the next morning. Talk about crazy and if you don’t show that kind of dedication, they say that you simply don’t care about your job.
With all that mess and drama being said, I’m not paid nearly enough for what I do. I can barely make ends meet. I have to juggle my bills by grace periods. In other words, I pay at the last possible date in order to ensure that I can purchase gas and food for myself and my family. I don’t have any credit cards because my credit is in the worst shape possible and to add insult to injury, the last hundred dollars that I had in my bank account now belongs to the IRS, I have no idea why. They’ve frozen my accounts and place a hold of nearly $10,000 on them… Where am I going to get that kind of money??? If it ain’t one thing it’s another. I can’t win for losing, my life is in complete chaos, but I’ve vowed to make it work.
I’m writing in hopes that you or someone else can offer me some sort of wisdom and guidance that will help me get through this situation.
