I have to admit, I have pretty jacked up teeth. Not my fault really, I’m a product of bad tooth genes and this stupid drug doctors used to give kids in the 80’s called Tetracycline, that permanently stains teeth. All my life I kinda just lived with it, only with the rare occasion here and there where I’d consider doing something about it. While the cost and time were the biggest deterrent, my default excuse for leaving them be was always, “Look at Ethan Hawke’s teeth. They’re crap, and he’s famous!” It eventually I’m not Ethan Hawke, just some regular dude who writes celebrity articles. So I decided to research this issue of bad teeth and celebs, and found to my surprise that many of today’s Hollywood A-lister gave their mouths an upgrade with cosmetic dental surgery. The before and after’s are truly amazing – so much so – that I’ve already booked my first appointment with the orthodontist so that I too, can have a beautiful Hollywood smile. So if you happen to have a busted smile because of crappy teeth too, then check out these 12 celebes who are living proof of what dental surgery can do.
Back in 1984, Nicholas Cage decided he’d kill three birds with one stone when it came to his smile. For his role in Birdy, he had two teeth pulled, and came out of the film a new man. Then he went ahead a did further work done on his grill for his breakout role in Moonstruck.
You’d think a man like George Clooney wouldn’t know a thing about being stressed – what with all his Oscars and stunningly beautiful leading ladies on his arm. But apparently George has the nasty habit of grinding his teeth when he’s stressed, and needed a full set of porcelain veneers to cover his dulled down smile. At over $1000 a tooth, that’s quite a lot to chew on. But then again, George is loaded – so it’s only a small bite.
The brits are known for not having the best teeth, but rather surprising that Spice Girl and current wife of David Beckham, Victoria Beckham once had a pretty unsightly smile too. Just check out some photos of her back when she was Posh Spice. She had a very different, more British grill.
Now if there’s ever been an incentive to getting your teeth done, just look at what a difference they can make. Here we have Hollywood heartthrob Tom Cruise when he was just at the start of his career (on the left). And boy, what a horrible start (tooth wise). Now Tom Cruise has a picture perfect smile, that makes even his grinning and yelling about Scientology more palatable.
The problem with Ben Affleck, besides the fact that he makes a horrible Batman, is that his teeth used to be too small for his mouth. So once he got his foot firmly in Hollywood’s door, Ben opted for porcelain veneers to lengthen (and brighten) his teeth.
Rapper and music mogul, 50 Cent decided to upgrade his gangster grill the moment he became rich. He proudly claims he spent $50,000 on them (of course it would be 50), so that really he could just close the gap between his two top middle teeth.
That chip in Jim Carrey’s tooth in his role in Dumb and Dumber was not a result of Hollywood makeup. He actually chipped his tooth when he was a kid and got it covered up with a cap. He removed it for the movie, which you have to agree, only adds humor to his already insanely funny Lloyd character.
When you’re a celeb, you can really afford to spare no expense. Notice the microscopic chip on Hilary’s front tooth in the picture of on the left. She got that by accidentally hitting her mouth with her microphone. And instead of getting a cap in the exact same color to cover it, she re-did her whole mouth with porcelain veneers.
You’d be hard-pressed to find a woman more beautiful than the lovely Catherine Zeta-Jones. But alas, her beauty isn’t entirely natural as she’s had quite a bit of work done on her teeth, which includes both braces and porcelain veneers.
Like husband, like wife – it appears Mr. Zeta-Jones (aka: Michael Douglas) also got the porcelain veneers treatment. While his teeth weren’t horrible before, in our opinion, he may have went a bit overboard on his dental surgery as his teeth are so white, they almost look like piano keys.
When you’re all teeth like Gary Busey is here, you better make sure they’re as perfect as can be. For many years, Gary’s had rather unsightly teeth, which apparently has nothing to do with his cocaine addiction, drinking problems, or riding his bike without a helmet, falling off and cracking his head wide open. No, he just had shitty yellowish teeth which he eventually covered with porcelain veneers.
During his illustrious boxing career as the world’s most menacing heavy weight champ, “Iron” Mike Tyson’s gold teeth were apart of his signature look. Even long before that ridiculous tribal tattoo he got on his face. So when he retired, he kept the tattoo but swapped out the gold for porcelain veneers. Oddly, he kept yet another defining aspect to his look; his wide tooth gap. It clearly looks horrible – but good luck telling him that!
